Approximate time needed: 40 minutes

Procedures:

1The timeline shows the history of information technology until now. As a reference, students are encouraged to discuss how fast IT has developed in the past 20 years. They may discuss the lifestyle changes from 20 years ago until now. Students may also discuss and compare the living standards in Hong Kong during the 1980s until now.35

2) Project - Investigate New Technology (P.3 - S.7)

Approximate time needed: one week

Aim:
To investigate new technology and its security implications.

Procedures:

1Students are divided into groups and asked to do a research project on new technology.---
2The groups will choose an up-to-date technology to research, such as the Intelligent Identity Cards (with smart card technology), wireless networking (Wi-Fi), Electric-powered motor vehicles, Fuel-cell powered motor vehicles, nanotechnology, etc.)---
3The research project could be produced in various ways, such as posters, websites, booklets, presentations, etc.80

Analysis:
Students may access materials from various sources such as: encyclopedias, Internet websites, newspapers and magazines.

Students are encouraged to have a macro perspective, i.e. to think about technology that would affect their lives in 10 years time.
