Multimedia entertainment found on the Internet often comes free of charge, such as when watching an upcoming movie trailer, listening to Internet radio, or watching the latest news. With broadband Internet access, downloading these media files onto one's hard drive becomes easy.

Although downloading the MP3s of an entire music album is quite easy on the Internet, it is still illegal if those music files originate from an unauthorized source. Composers and authorized parties, such as recording houses, can distribute music that belongs to them, but Internet users who have made or distributed a pirated copy of any piece of music are breaking the law.
